Reservist Subdues Suspect With Stun Gun

SAN DIEGO — A Marine Corps reservist chased a man suspected of snatching a woman’s purse for a quarter of a mile and used his personal stun gun to zap him, police said on Saturday.

Police said a woman was getting into her car at a mall on Black Mountain Road just north of Route 56 at around 3:25 p.m. on Thursday. A man then opened the woman’s passenger door and grabbed her purse, said San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali.

The Marine reservist saw the incident and chased the man for a quarter of a mile before hitting him with his stun gun near the intersection of Paseo Montalban and Twin Trails Drive, Cali said.

Police said 24-year-old Brendan Eads was arrested and booked into jail on grand theft charges.  The man was treated for minor injuries, Cali said.  The woman was not injured. The reservist’s name was not released.
